AutoFlow

Thermographic flow condition detection on rotor blades of offshore wind turbines during operation using an automated and disturbance robust flight system

The research project is concerned with the development of an automated measurement and analysis process in which the aerodynamic properties of offshore wind turbines in particular are evaluated using thermography and the associated energy yield. The findings can then be used to carry out optimizations on the turbines. The immediate result is increased energy production and thus significantly higher profits for the turbine operators. The automated process is novel and will be designed to integrate seamlessly with standard inspection activities. The approach is being developed specifically for the harsh offshore conditions, but can also be used 1:1 for onshore plants.
